The HSPPB market is a totally new market brought about by the increasing number of acts of global piracy. Piracy has moderated off Somalia due to NATOs extensive naval efforts deploying planes, helicopters and large warships to locate and capture pirates.
Based on current information from the International Maritime Bureau (September 1, 2013) on the West Coast of Africa in the Gulf of Guinea and especially off the coast of Nigeria piracy is rampant and includes hijacking tankers and offloading part of their oil where it is sold on the black market. Areas of the South China Sea and around Indonesia are having the highest number of piracy incidents reported and as this is the largest concentration of ships to and from China this is likely to continue at least until more patrol boats are put into service to capture pirates and to protect shipping. India has reported acts of piracy and South America off the coasts of Ecuador, Colombia and Guyana have had acts of piracy carried out against ships in 2013.
Navies of the world have always focused on large steel warships and now with global piracy expanding exponentially they don’t have suitable small vesselto counteract the problem; but we do.
Many developing countries who need our HSPPBs can't afford to purchase them, but the EU, UN, NATO , other World Organisations and major trading countries affected by acts of piracy such as the USA, Japan, UK, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia and some other oil producing nations are willing to fund projects that will ensure global economic security.
Piracy directly affects the economies of almost every country as shipping insurance rates are increased and ship owners add this to their shipping rates. Ships transiting through the 'Horn of Africa' on their way to or from the Suez Canal; through which two thirds of the ships engaged in global trade use, MUST operate at FULL SPEED and this burns a lot of extra fuel that ship owners also add to their shipping rates. Additionally increasing numbers of acts of piracy drives up the global price of oil which ultimately we all pay for.
The cost of policing and trying to prevent acts of piracy on the high seas off Somalia has been borne by NATO countries. The strategy of NATO Navies is to use long range fixed wing aircraft to locate a small wooden skiff far out in the ocean shipping routes containing 5 to 10 pirates. They then use helicopters to prevent the pirates from getting away while the large steel warships motor at full speed to the reported location where they send off marines in RIBs to search the suspected pirate boat for weapons. This is an extremely costly and preventable exercise.
The real solution is to prevent the pirates from leaving the beaches, harbours and rivers in the first place. To do this requires a number of small High Speed Patrol Boats and keep them constantly patrolling the known pirate ‘hot spots’. These areas are inside each country’s territorial waters so only the affected countries can operate the small High Speed Patrol Boats.
These same countries know they have to prevent piracy as it directly and adversely affects their economy as global businesses won't invest in unstable countries and these countries depend on outside investment to establish businesses to employ workers who pay taxes and spend money which grows the economy.

Our unique construction method only requires two sets of hull platform moulds to produce the 4 different size catamarans for the 8 different models of catamarans.
We do this by having an insert mould that fits in the centre of the two base moulds extending the 20 metre mould to 26 metres and extending the 30 metre mould to 35 metres. The HSPPB and the OWFCTS vessels both come out of the same hull platform moulds.
TMD has used this method successfully for our recreational catamarans and this represents a huge cost saving and a huge saving of storage space over having eight different sets of moulds.
The OWFCTSmarket is well established in the UK and Europe it is only just getting started in North America, Asia and other areas. The market is dominated 97% by aluminum catamarans, 2% fiberglass catamarans and 1% mono-hull workboats.
Aluminium catamarans are twice as heavy as carbon fibre and use large engines that burn twice as much fuel, they crack and often have to be pulled out of service for welding repairs, they sweat and corrode and they are noisy and uncomfortable.
Fiberglass catamaran builders claim their vessels are lighter than aluminium and use less fuel but they use the same large engines as aluminium catamarans to get them up to the same speed, so there is some doubt!
To use fiberglass for workboats they would require a very strong layup and this means many layers of fiberglass and resin for the required strength and this MUST make them heavy which is why they use large horsepower engines.
Our carbon fibre catamarans are so superior that within 5 years we willsupply 80% of the new vessels ordered. I can say this because our carbon fibre catamarans are half the weight and ten times stronger than aluminium catamarans and we use smaller engines that burn 50% less fuel for the same or better performance than aluminium catamarans so......
WHO WOULDN’T WANT TO CUT THEIR ANNUAL WORKBOAT FUEL BILL IN HALF?
It all comes down to engineering 101; a light object requires less energy to move it than a heavy object.
We have used this mantra and built the lightest strongest possible boat and then raised it to the next level; literally. By adding a carbon fibre hydrofoil system two thirds of the vessels hulls will be lifted out of the water reducing hull drag resistance. The foils will also dampen pitching that would slow a boat down requiring more fuel to be burnt to overcome it.
Our first choice would be to commence building in the USA but we could commence in Asia, Australia, Canada, the UK or Europe for different reasons. The USA because of the Jones Act, as all commercial vessels working in the USA must be built in the USA. With the fast approaching US OWF Industry we will not be able to builds boats for this market unless we build them in the USA. The US has many attractions as there are a lot of large waterfront facilities available due to the recession. For the same reason there are a lot of skilled boat builders out of work and the salaries in the South are quite low.
